Dry Eye

Dry eye syndrome is a chronic and typically progressive syndrome. It can be caused by multiple etiologies which can include decreased tear production, decreased fatty component to tears and ocular inflammation. Even though dry is not usually curable, it can usually be managed to allow relief from the symptoms.

Common Symptoms

  • dryness/itching
  • burning/stinging
  • watering eyes
  • sensitivity to light
  • a gritty or sandy sensation
  • feeling like something is in your eyes
  • blurry vision or difficulty seeing at night
  • problems wearing contact lenses

Standard Treatments

Dr. Sherman can design a range of different treatments for patients such as artificial tears, lubricating ointments, flax seed or fish oil supplements, topical anti-inflammatory agents, or low dose oral antibiotics.
